Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Those present were Sue Boone, Dotti Doyle, Susan Hegner, Abhi Janamanchi, Joe Myers, Millie Rochester, Sylvia Scott, Joann Shrewsbury, Bill Snell, Linda Stoller, Nancy Warner, Roberta Watson, Carol Heichel, Millie Rochester.  Those absent were Catherine Conover, Carl Krave, and Dick Rolfes. 

 

Guests were Bill Norsworthy, Ellen Morgan, Max Shimer, Pat McGiverin.

 

Meeting was called to order at 7 PM by Susan Hegner, chair.

The agenda was reviewed and amended

 

Minutes of the November 2008 meeting were approved as corrected.

 

The Treasurer’s Report was approved unanimously.  Pledge income for November was $25,717.  Members will be kept informed of our financial situation by a display in the lobby.  In addition the following meetings will be called in January:

            -  the ‘Yes We Can’ participants will meet to discuss ideas that came from December meeting

            -  Major committees that interact with paid staff and ministers will meet to discuss effects of possible staff cuts

            -  the top 25% of contributors will be informed of financial situation and then will be canvassed individually.

 

 

ACTION ITEMS

 

Sue Boone moved that Rev. Peter Morales be nominated for President of the UUA.  All approved.

 

Joe Myers moved that the Board approve the use of the octagon for a concert, 2nd Suite by Bolling and tunes by Gershwin, on Jan. 31, 2009, for the purpose of raising funds for the repair of the Steinway piano.  Any surplus funds would go to Ways and Means.  All approved.

 

Sue Boone moved that Soledad Loba be nominated for the Above and Beyond Award for January.  Approved unanimously.

 

INFORMATION  ITEMS

 

Rev. Millie Rochester’s report is attached.  In addition:  a meeting of parents for 7-9 graders interested in OWL will be on Jan. 9.  Millie represented UUC at World Peace Day at Holiday FL in December.  Millie will be on medical leave the first two weeks of January.

 

Rev. Abhi Janamanchi’s report is attached.  In addition:  Abhi will be gone Dec 26 - Jan 5.  Rev. Manish Mishra will address any pastoral needs.  Association Sunday will be Jan 11 with 70% of the offering to go to the UUA, and 30% to UUC.  Abhi explained his role in the skit on Dec. 7 and apologized for his inaction.

 

Update from ad hoc committee on the manse.  Contract was signed on Dec 1.  Walls were painted by Del and Sylvia Scott, and a cadre of workers from both UUA and the Buddhists.  A Clearwater fire inspector addressed the requirements that still need to be met. 

 

Calendar conflict issues - work continues on this issue.  Committee chairs will meet in January to plan the calendar for the next 6-9 months.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:02 pm.
